Why does one string ones bass like that?
Are there any benefits to it, compared to through bridge or through body...ideally measurable ones?

Help! Best String To Wrap Around Bridge Saddles?

Are there any benefits to it, compared to through bridge or through body...ideally measurable ones?
If once around is good, twice around is even BETTER. Just look at all the tuning posts, and the tone of those windings...
I'd be interested to see which would be victorious in that tug of war, the tuners or the saddle screws, especially if those are pot metal barrels. Otherwise, that setup would definitely cure my mild, incurable OCD with restringing and having non-congruent string barrels.

Like many things going on these days, ignorance and a lack of common sense.
I just weld my strings to the saddles. Doesn't everyone? I keep a pedal powered welder in my bass equipment bag, you never know when you might have to replace a broken string. I know you can tie a knot in a broken string, but I like to put a tack on the knot because I never learned the right way to tie one back together where it will stay. I guess I'll forever be a ham and egger. 
Only if they are brightly colored. At least that’s what I was told when I asked the same question.
