help choosing a cheap bass

In my experience, Sunbeams are pretty/very bright. I've gotten some decently mellow tones out of D'Addario Half Wounds (basically, ground wounds) and Flat Wounds.

I love Ernie Ball strings (especially the Cobalts!), but they are really bright, maybe too bright for what you're looking for.

Strings are so subjective. I'm not sure how mellow he wants since he mentioned wanting to explore slap (shrugs).

Well, I "think" most slap heavy players use round wound strings. I don't really buy strings for slapping. I know Marcus Miller is a pretty slap-happy player, and I think he uses DR Hi Beams.

All right, I think I'll just check out what he's got at the local store string wise, and try something new when the Peavey comes in.

Ok, so I need help again. I just got an e-mail from GC saying that the bass I ordered was actually ordered 30 minutes before I did, but their server only updates every hour.So no bass for me :crying: even though it's been paid for already. Should I try and get another Peavey Foundation for the same price or what?
