HELP - connecting my rig

Hello All

I am presently upgrading my rig by introducing a TONEBONE BASSBONE in the system. Due to the fact that I normally gig using two guitars (mostly a G&L ASAT and a STATUS graphite 6 string) the bassbone will solve the problems I encounter when changing bases (ex. different volume output from the basses).

I need help on connecting everthing together now. My rig consists of the following:

* Bass 1 - G&L
* Bass 2 - Status
* Bassbone Pedal
* VTP1 Valve Pre-Amp (two channel)
* dbx compressor/limiter (two channel)
* Behringer Rack Tuner
* GK head feeding a Trace Elliot 4x10 plus horn cabinet

I never managed to get it right it seems! Also, since both VTP-1 and dbx have two channels each, should I consider feeding these before the Bassbone or should i use one channel and loop them with the GK head or use both effects before feeding signal to the G&K? What about tuner? What are my options and what should i look out for?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

Antonio from tiny MALTA

Try this:

* Bass 1 - G&L
* Bass 2 - Status

Switch between them into the same input, using your tuner's "mute" button to cover the sound of unplugging/plugging in.

* Bassbone Pedal
* Behringer Rack Tuner
* VTP1 Valve Pre-Amp (two channel)
* dbx compressor/limiter (two channel)

I discovered that having the tuner after everything essentially nulls the use of the mute button - put it as the first stop in your chain on the rack.

* GK head feeding a Trace Elliot 4x10 plus horn cabinet

Good luck.

Thanks for this. But im getting the Bassbone in order to use it as a A/B switch. The GK head has a tuner out which im presently using. My questions revolve more around the fact whether I should put the valve preamp and the compressor before the bonetone or after the bonetone and use single channels on both dbx and vtp?

Antonio

I would just use single channels of the preamp and compressor. The Bassbone is not designed to handle a line-level signal, and the rack units both put out line level.

Also, I'd recommend bypassing the preamp built into the GK head in order to reduce noise. You can do that by connecting like:

basses --> Bassbone --> VTP --> dbx --> effects return jack on the GK head

I would also try the dbx before the VTP. With your two channels of compressor you could also try bassbone > one channel of dbx set to compress to taste > VTP > second channel of the dbx set up as a hard limiter that only grabs big signal spikes > amp.
