I am considering a new custom build but with a vintage vibe. It can't be totally vintage, but it is considerably more vintage for me. I want the bass to be a funk machine, so hollow bodies are out. I'm leaning more towards a Fender P sound rather than a J sounding bass. If I had to describe the sound, I'd say I want it to pound your chest and tingle your toes simultaneously.

I want it to look somewhat vintage, but it is not as important as a funky vintage tone.

Here are the specs in which I'm not flexible:

-5 string
-19mm string spacing
-32" scale
-natural finish with maybe a pick guard

Specs in which I'm leaning toward, but not married to:

-Alder body
-Maple/Wenge/Maple neck (I may need the Wenge in there for stability with the 5 string/ 32" scale)
-Maple fretboard

Other specs completely up in the air:

-passive vs active (I would think passive if I'm going vintage.)
-if not passive, then what brand and model pre- amp?
-pickups: P? MM? Nordstrand dual coil, single coil, other brands, style and model???
-one or two pickups? I'm leaning towards two, but not married to two.
-anything else I'm leaving out?

So if this were your project, what would you do with the negotiable specs?

Please note: I know I could just purchase a 5 string P bass, but I want the 32" scale. I'd rather not just get a P bass since I'm considering some custom aspects of this bass.
