Help dating a neck code Precision bass

hi,
I am looking at a 1978 precision bass, the serial number is S882***, so this does place it as a 1978,
But the neck code reads as 0102X0805
01 Precision
02 Maple neck
X random letter used on 75 to 78 no meaning except as a separator between the numbers?

Does that seem right?.
Could it be a 1975 produced neck used on a 1978 guitar.
Like the neck was made in 75 but not actually put on a guitar till 78 then the serial number was put on the headstock!.

the body is refinished, would there be any marking numbers or codes on the body of a 1978 I could check for?

any assistance appreciated

S882XXX sounds more 1980.

01020805
01 = Precision Bass
02 = maple neck
08 = week
0 = 1980
5 = Friday

A 1975 should have the bigger TV logo and not the later "S8" Serial at the Headstock Logo.
What did the pots and pickups date read?

Fender used S8 and S9 up until 1983. There are no E0,1,2 or 3 Fenders other than the Bullet so it could be up to 1983.

Yes I did

according to the info in the photos i posted, anything above S880000 is a 1980
there are different ways of reading the neck code last 4 numbers.
one way is as you have done, week, year,dayofweek.
or either of the last two digits can be the year!.

the guitar is meant to be a 1978, (basically because the serial No, starts with S8!.
a 1978 would start with S8 but the number would have to be below S810000 (in the photo info above).
The neck code as you read it would confirm that this is a 1980 guitar, would you agree?.
The guy does not want to strip the guitar down to show pick ups or pots, he said the neck code photo was from when he bought it.

I thought the neck code could be either 75 or 80, based on the last two digits being 0 and 5, (reading it with the alternative method).
I think he has said it is a 78 based on the serial No saying S8, but does not know or has not looked at the actual info regarding the serial numbers?

Yes, I also thought my "S9" Precision was 1979 for many years until I found the date at the pots from 81.
Do you have pics of the refin body?
The most bodies from 1978 did only have one cnc-hole below the bridge, at around 1979/80 they had two cnc-holes and the added cavity for the switch (Elite-models) even if they were Standard-Precisions.
