Help Delta with his first pedalboard.

Hey all,

I am a new thread starting to Talkbass, but I wanted to get your opinion. I am planning on selling my Digitech BP200 and getting individual effects slowly. I cant handle all the different options with the multi effects pedal. I would like to create a simple 4-5 pedal board.

So here is where I am starting... I have a BOSS CEB-2 Bass Chorus and a Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive.
- I want to pick up a better distortion. I am considering a MXR Blowtorch or Big Muff Pi.
- I am also thinking about a good equalizer, but is it necessary when I have active pickups on my jazz?
- And lastly, are there any effects that you suggest I get? I play in worship regularly, but I want to get back into a rock/ska band.

Thanks for the help.

Remember, Blowtorches and Muffs are fuzzes, so they might not sound like typical distortion.
They're brutal, epic fuzzes.

With that being said, it's highly unlikely that you won't like them. A lot of people here will attest to that.

Anyway, chorus is good for worship. You already have that covered.

Just don't feel the need to go buy effect pedals...just to do it. You'll end up making unnecessary purchases, wasting money/effort/time.

Anyway, just go to a local shop and try out a lot of pedals that catch your eye.

For me, I have an overdrive pedal AND a fuzz pedal. Don't restrict yourself, but don't go overboard.

You tell me. ;) What's wrong with the EQ on your amp?

For worship? It's really, really hard to pull off much past reverb or a mild chorus or delay. Otherwise, it's up to you.

you might like a wah/envelope filter.

Think about what sounds you want and how to get them. for example when i started going nuts with effects my 2 favourite sounds were price i pay by jane's addiction and know your enemy by ratm. so distortion, compressors and octavers were my first stop.

That's alot better on the bank than buying 100 pedals and thinking "now where will i use this"

Here's my only input. I played/recorded with a ska band in college when their bass player left school. As much as I love effects, there was little to no use for them in that band. I would sometimes use an envelope filter for fun live, but it wasn't used on the album.

I simply used a Jazz Bass with rounds into a borrowed Ampeg and played with a pick and a fairly treble heavy tone, much more than I would typically use.

I don't want to dissuade you from the fun that effects can be, but just keep in mind what you are using them for.

On the other hand, for rock, if you don't have a tube amp I would suggest some kind of dirt, an overdrive, distortion or fuzz depending on what kinds of tones you like.
