help, i have finally gone too far

Ok, I need your collective help. I have been searching for a certain sound for my Jazz bass for a long time. Like a painter who does not know when to stop, I went to far. Every hear a low E note on a steinway. It is the result of a design defect but is now a famous sound. It growls from the depths of hell. Well, that is the sound I always wanted.

I finally acheived "that sound" but now cannot get that fat warm even sound that plays nice with the other sting instruments in a mix. I love my evil growling pit of hell bass sound but others in the band are not so willing to play with the devil. Part of my current sound is a sansamp driver. What I think I need is a nice old warm sounding preamp that I can switch to when playing that 70's rock classic stuff. I have been looking at a pearce. I don't want modern. I want Sgt. Peppers. I use a 600 watt power amp and a 410 Ampeg. Any feedback/suggestions.
