Help identify this orphan pot

This came to me in a huge box of random parts and pieces that (literally) ranged from concrete bits to finish nails to an eggbeater drill. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose on a deal like this; so far the jury is still out!

At any rate, this little fella was hiding amongst the detritus. Can anyone identify or tell me what such an animal would be used for?

Thanks in advance,
John

Type J is a low noise high wattage pot. Often used in audio circuits where high wattage handling is needed. 5k ohms is the resistance rating. It's a two gang pot, i.e. two "pots" on one shaft, such that when you turn the shaft, both pots are actuated. This lets you have one control that impacts two independent circuits. Common uses for this are in stereo applications (i.e. a single control that lets you influence both stereo signals). Or, in applications where different circuits are switched in and out of use, and you want one control that works in both (i.e. a treble boost/cut when active mode is selected, that also works as a passive treble cut in passive mode).

I can't really think of any direct application on a bass guitar. Maybe somewhere out there is a bass amp or pedal that needs a pot like this, but I can't think of much off the top of my head.
