Help installing EMG HZ on Schecter Omen Extreme

Hello to all,

I have a Schecter Omen Extreme where I wanted to exchange the pups.

On the original, quite simple; 2 wires for each pickup, with one wire attached to the middle pin of the blend pot (upper row), with the other wire attached to the side of the same pot.
Same with other pu but attached to the middle pin of lower row of the blend pot + side

Simple.

The EMG is quite another beast.

it has 5 wires in total (see picture below):

- one red
- one white and one black attached together with plastic cover on the end as if they were not to be used
- one green attached to a non-covered (no plastic housing) wire.

After reading on this website, I tried:

- Attaching the positive wire (white) to the back of the pot. Then the negative (green) to the corresponding terminal (pin).

I tried attaching the green with and without the non-covered wire.

It did not work...

Then I also find on TB:

- Attaching White+Red to hot, Black+Green to ground.

Also tried attaching the green with and without the non-covered wire.

Also did not work...

Then I tried all combinations I could imagine, I did get some scratching noise in some case when I tried but still no sound.

Any recommendation?

PS: Need to specify that I did not solder every time I tried but did it "by hand" most of the time to save time...

Thank you SO much!

IMHO Schecter Diamond pickups sound heaps better than EMG HZ.
I don't see this as a worthy mod.
If you want to upgrade go with EMG DC at least.

These pickups are humbuckers so 2 separate coils under a single hood.
There are multiple ways to plug them, it isn't difficult you just need to understand what you're doing.
The simplest, most common wiring is series. Connect black and white together, then solder green to the ground braid and you're left with a dipolar pickup like the stock ones.

Merci pour la reponse!
Good to know, I was/am not sure if the Schecter pickups sound better than the EMG HZ, but wanted to try... Maybe I'll start by changing one only and then test and see how it sounds.
Also, I just bought a complete pre-amp from a Schecter J Plus. So was thinking about changing the pre-amp as well. Do you think it will be better to have DCs with this pre-amp as well? It allows to do series and parallel at the turn of a switch.
I really like the Omen Extreme because it is light and good looking. I was just hoping to improve the sound a bit. The Schecter Diamond Stiletto Custom uses EMG HZ and it is supposed to be an upgrade compared to the Schecter pups. Hence my motivation...
Thank you for the info on the wiring, I'll try.
