help! is this possible..

im a total noob when it comes to electronics but i was wondering if it was possible to install seymour duncan basslines pickups and make it have a humbucking or single coil mode.. if so, which kind of seymour duncan pickups should i get? any info would be very much appreciated :D

What you described it called coil splitting, and it is possible with just about any 4 conductor humbucker.

The exception is Precision bass and linear humbucking style Jazz bass pickups, in which splitting to single coil mode will result in no output from 2 of the strings.

What type of pickup is this?
If your getting a Jazz style pickup, be sure that it's a stacked coil design if you want to use it in single coil mode.

Depending on the pickup, the single coil sound might be very thin because the two coils are underwound so that their output will not be too hot when combined.

i see.. could you suggest any good brands and the specific name of the pickup from said brand? the tone im looking for is leaning more on the warm side (think tony grey) but can still get those punchy highs..not really bright, more of punchy (sorry if its vague)

also, could i have ur opinion on this pickup if it is good for coil splitting?

and lastly, the bass im planning to install the pickups on have custom humbucker pickups.. the controls are volume(neck), volume(bridge), tone knob, and an onboard 3-band eq.. theres also a killswitch, an active/passive switch, and a coil split function.. will i need to revamp everything just to install the pickups? (i.e. change the volumevolumetone setup, remove the onboard preamp).. because if its thats the case, i might not push trough with it (too complicated) and do i need to get active pickups or passive pickups?

thanks much for any info and sorry for the noob questions, peace

Well, I'm good with wiring, but i don't have any suggestions to offer on pickup choices/tonality.
Hopefully someone else here can recommend you a set of pickups.

The pickup you linked is electronically capable of being split into single coil mode. However, as i said earlier, make sure to look into what it sounds like, as you may end up with a thin underwound coil sound.

As far the the install, I am assuming that your old pickups were passive, correct? In which case, the new pickups should go straight in without modification.
