You can't avoid a humbucker with a pbass. If you imagine the two coils aligned with each other, rather than offset as they are, the humbucker that the P pickup is, becomes clear. A north coil, south coil, with one start each and the finishes wired together per series. Forgive the rough as guts drawing.Appreciate the suggestion for Humbuckers!
However the reason why the P and J basses were revelations was because I switched from something with Humbuckers to...P and J pickups. I am absolutely very definitely not a Humbucker guy for bass.
Playing with the idea of "convert to a P\J:"
If I got an Split Jazz pickup JUST for the neck, is that effectively doing the job?
Could I get a Split Jazz in the neck and a regular Jazz in the bridge?
P\J didn't make happy because it was a meh J and a meh P. So I want something between a Jazz and a J\P
I know I keep harping on about hotter pickups, but I know that hotter pickups have more mids, less top. So I'm also considering getting something prety damn spicy for the neck, and something "normal" for the bridge as well?
