That said, I second that the Dirnt is a great deal for a good bass, but I'd also advise you to go and have a look at the other bass - and buy what feels best. If you really insist on getting a US made P bass in the long run, I'd get the Dirnt for the time being - that one is more likely to sell quickly and without loss should the time come.

Plus, if it's that good of a buy, the Dirnt is only in the hands of non-musicians. The "greatest" guitars are never in the hands of musicians.

Learn how to setup what you have. There are hundreds of sources to ask and learn. Or remain stubborn and reap the rewards you already have reaped.

Wanting to learn something to fast, always means one of two things:
You are not willing to work hard - Or

You are excited, both are equally bad, one is worse, answer that correctly and you still have to put in the work.

Would a more traditional P have a similar sound to this Dirnt but weigh a bit less and maybe a slightly smaller neck?

This has become my favorite bass. Love the tone. Planning to sell my USA AVRI 62 J to fund another P.

Never compromise and you stated you did as much when you said, "At first the wide neck and the heavy body bugged me but now getting used to them."
I started back playing on a "J" style and had the same issues. So started looking for fixes for those issues. I have found several really nice Ibanez guitars, all with slender necks (they all have very slender necks) and most 3 or 4 lbs lighter.
If you want that sound, several used models can be found in that price range. I have a rather rare ASX400 it's heavier than my other Ibanez Basses, but what a beautiful and full sound it has and still weighs 2 lbs less than a "P" Bass at half that cost with a hard case.
Anyone that has read my posts know I am a huge fan of Ibanez guitars.
