Possible gear swaps of a ignorant guitarist involves two basses, which one woould you choose, a 1981 G&L L1000 or a 1997 American Jazz? Are the values approximately the same?
Hmmm...I love G&L stuff. Every electric guitar I've owned in the past ten years has been a G&L. And I really dig their basses too. However, all things being equal, I'd take a '97 over an '81; simply because it's second hand gear and I'd like to think that a '97 has had less time to be damaged/beat-up/mishandled/etc...
Of course, if you can get your hands on both of them prior to your decision, and actually inspect and play them...
