okay after some saving I have enough for a good sized deposit on a bass. price range is $1000-$1600 AU

I play metal, and am looking for 5 strings, no less no more. Not a Fender not a fan of them somthing with a slim neck humbuckers, and a trebely tone (Rex-pantera) but I also want a growl, well more like a snarl (Children of Bodom sound). Preferably not really hot pups, ive got a sansamp for growl.

Id take a look at the 5 string ibbanez's they sound perfect for what you want but i am no good at these things. best advice is go play every one at your music store and walk out with your favorite.

The G&L 2500 Tribute does not have a slim neck, but the tone is just what you describe. The American G&Ls are much more expensive but can come with slimmer necks.

i was looking at the Ibanez range. But I played on a cort, with bart Mk1 pups. they didn't really impress me. I love T'Bird with tone on full sound.


I also played on a stingray, I like the neck on the G&L better.

Ive played on a spector E5(?) Schecter C-5, a G&L. a different version ESP. I really want to try an SR 505 or 705

Try an Ibanez ATK305. Less than 1/2 the price of a stingray, but sounds pretty darn close to one.

They kick very hard when you want them too, but also very versatile.

I'm guessing from what you've said that you'll find the G&L pickups to be far too hot.

How about a Gibson Bass V ? Thunderbird pickups, 1 3/4" nut width. Pretty rare, but they do show up from time to time.

okay, I dont think some people saw my price range, I guess I could go up to $2000AU (WITH AU PRICES).

And yes I'm not a fan of hot pups. my dean has really hot pups, and it is more annoying than anything else, sends my inbuilt compressor crazy.

also not a fan of the ATK basses (the look) I cant stand those clover shaped tuners!!

I'm going to a music store tomorow that stocks Ibanez, hopefully find a 5 in there. last time they only had 4's and two 5's (one was the G&L).

I have tried that G&L L2500, and the sound is exactly what you described. You will love it man.

I found I didn't have enough attack with the G&L.

I love the sound of EMG humbuckers.

I've re-read your requirements several times, and the answer is one you posted yourself...

Spector. The Legend Custom line is damn fine for the ca$h, it's got more than enough growl and snarl for most mortals, and the improved TonePump preamp with its internal trimpot that lets you lower the once-too-hot output takes away the one "...but" that I would have given and greatly improves the stock preamp.

the spector is my main choice. I am planning to get one in jan, when the store gets new spector stock in.

I really just want to get more opinions and see if anyone has any other suggestions.
