Help me chose MIM or MIJ

IMO, I would choose a brand new fender MIM to 20 year old MIJ at any given time, especially if it is beat up like that. Also there is a good chance that you need the re-fret it in 2-3 years, so much for the "10 year bass". Beat up basses also might have problems with neck integrity, rusty rod, etc.. happened to me...

MIJ. If only for the fact that it will hold it's value better (as somebody mentioned earlier). In your shoes, I wouldn't think twice about buying the vintage one. It's cheaper, and I like the fact that it has vintage. I usually feel better about owning things that have been broken in than I do about buying brand new things that are unproven. I don't know anything about those specific basses, but I've got an 82 Japanese Squier and a 2000 MIM Fender, both Jazz Basses. I know this is apples to oranges as far as your choice goes, but ever since I got the MIJ Squier, my MIM has pretty much just collected dust.

I said MIJ only cuz of a 200.00 price diff and yea the mojo. But i will say you might be getting a bass with problems in the neck or trussrod,frets ,pups or pots. This could ad up to the diff in the MIM down the line ..who know's. The other thing is if you order the MIM and dont like it you could send it back...can you with the MIJ? Also no warranty with the MIJ...maybe im should of said MIM. I have their classic 50's P and it is really special.... a great bass.
