So I was talking to a drummer I ran sound for today, and he mentioned that his neighbor was an old pro drummer who gave him a bunch of sticks. Apparently his favorites are from that batch, but he can’t find them (and the sticks are probably 20 years old so may be out of production). If anyone know what model it is or a similar model that would be extremely helpful, thanks!

It’s Zildjian brand, plain wood, light color, probably about a medium diameter, oval tip, and the big distinguishing feature is a groove maybe 4-5 inches from the back. Like this, but a smaller groove instead of a wider dip and all plain wood.

If you fire the drummer you never have to deal with this stick nonsense again, and you can go back to concentrating on important questions like "what pick is best for metal" and "what flats sound most like like rounds".

It's a slippery slope when you begin to patronize drummer's excuses for anything. And this reminds me of Sally's song "My New Philosophy" (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Chenowith Toni award winner) which asks the question: "Why are you telling me?"

A picture of the stick would be helpful, but by chance, does it have any information on the stick at all? Japanese oak? A little sumo character? A tip that had a black (or black and read) glossy colored tip on the butt end of the sick? Does it has even part of a signature or other unique features?

It will be interesting to see if you get an answer here. Do drummers not have forums?

Since there are no online drum forums, the quickest way to get an answer to your question is to order a pizza and ask the guy that delivers it.
If the collective memory of all the bass players here don't know what the stick is, what makes you think the bass player delivering the pizza has a better chance?
