what's happened to you is you've discovered how much fun bass playing is
from 1968 through 1993, i played acoustic guitar and some electric. then someone asked me to sit in on a jam on bass so they'd have a bass player. a couple songs in, i asked to buy their extra bass. the next day, i was in a band.
My journey has been a little more Yellow Brick Road like. [Or was it Abby Road- I forget
] I put guitar and bass away for a long time (except playing guitar for the kids when they were young) and focused on other instruments- then other things. There was always something about the low end. I wanted to learn to play tuba but never got there, possibly because those instruments, even the cheaper ones are so darn expensive (but not as expensive as my daughter's flute). Can I borrow/steal that? I gotta do it. Thanks for sharing.
I actually started on accordian (at age 7) but that didn't stick. Then guitar and clarinet kinda happened at the same time. Clarinet didn't stick though I got stuck with it for a couple years. Then I became intrigued with trumpet (3 buttons... how hard could it be :0 ) and after a 22 year hiatus from trumpet came back to it in full force and still play/teach actively. Guitar creeped back into my life when I was living in Mexico 6-7 years ago and no place to play trumpet. I found a guitar maker who sold me a gorgeous classical guitar that got smashed to smithereens on my move back to the states. It's been a downhill adventure since.
To be honest, the BIG thing on my bucket list is to have a band that does Blood Sweat and Tears, CTA (the early stuff), Ides of March, Tower of Power type stuff. Maybe one day.
Why not? I stole it, too. A remark by Garry Tallent (E St. Band) many, many years ago.
Similar thing has happened to me. I have 2 real nice guitars (Strat Plus and a Les Paul Standard) that I played for a long time. I was a "guitar" player for 30+ years and started playing the bass about 16 months ago. Those 2 guitars have been in their cases since then. Don't miss them at all. In fact, the Strat is for sale. I've already sold a couple guitar amps. Looking to sell a Marshall 212 cab and another Fender amp. Figured I could get some cool bass-related stuff with the cash. ADDICTED! Enjoy!

But I got here because I kept firing the bass player. Eventually the band figured the only way to put a stop to that, was to make me the bass player.

I played guitar in metal bands in the 80s. Then I joined the Air Force and my desire to play slowy went away. I retired after 24 years and decided to get back into music, but the guitar didn't grab me like it used to. I did find myself playing bass lines on the top 4 strings. So I got a bass and an amp, then a cabinet and head ... and then another bass. This time I decided to learn more than just songs, so I'm learning music theory. It's only been 8 months and I love the change! I still play my guitars now and then, but the bass is a lot more fun!

I am having a blast playing bass. I'm finding that more and more I'm becoming more artistic, taking more liberties and creating interest beyond basic bass. And when I'm working with amateurs with incurable R.A.D.S (rhythmic awareness deficiency syndrome) I can help keep stuff from going sideways as well as sometimes dictating style. I dunno... At home now I'm playing bass 90% and guitar 10%. I was scheduled to play guitar tonight and emailed the leader and asked " You've got enough guitar players tonight- would you rather me play bass"? And so tonight- bass it is!
