While I would never claim to be able to play like Les, I will say I have picked up a lot from his playing, buy listening for countless hours and years!
I have picked up a lot from, Frizzle Fry, Holly Mackerel and Sausage!
Work on playing with 3 fingers on your right hand. Start out slow and work your way up to triplets! Learn to play " "Toys" from Frizzle Fry, IMO this is the best intro to Les song because once you get the triplets technic down, the song is pretty easy to play, and then you can work on the tone. While all of his equipment helps shape his sound, his tone comes from his fingers. Moving you right hand closer to the neck is going to help with that round kind of lose sound and there is kind of a bounce with the left hand. Keep experimenting and listening it will come.
If your more interested in his slapping , I would first learn how to slap , if you don't already know how. There are ton of slap lesson videos on line.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to emulate your favorite bass player, most of the greatest bass players started out that way. You will start to develop your own style and take what you like from different players .
Good luck !
