Help me to choose my envelope filter

Filters I have known ...

BYOC 440 clone - one or two good tones, subtle

Jacques Trinity - decent auto wah, decent EF, gimmicky foot pump pedal

MXR Auto Q - decent auto wah, decent EF, nice sparkle added to the tone

EHX Q Tron - huge range of tones, some great, some suck, takes a while to tweak

EHX Q Tron + - nice add on features to the QTron, never used the fx loop

Alesis Philtre - digital (boo!) but tons of fun

Pigtronix EP-1 - chewy, noisy

EHX Polyphase RI - chewy, simple

SE ModMax Phasor - thirteen knobs, seven switches! noisy

Subdecay Prometheus - honeymoon phase, I like it!

Oops. Someone complain that the Maxon AF-9 is too weak and too thin.

As I could not try out the Maxon AF-9, is there any other thick envelope filter to replace AF-9? I still like the Moog, but its too big...
Every pedal is going to have its detractors. I certainly would not discount a pedal because of a single negative post.

I don't consider the AF-9 as thin. It has three ranges, a hi pass, bandpass, and lo pass. In the lo pass filter it is certainly not thin.

In the bandpass filter in can be thin or super boomy depending on how far the intensity is adjusted and how hard you trigger it, but that's just because it's capable of extremes. Don't use it at the wildest settings and you won't get extreme noises.

Also, I run mine through a blender/looper. I can mix in my original signal with the heavily effected tone and still retain enough bottom end. I don't always, but have the option if I want it.

hey there redangel!

i have tried the Q-0tron+ and the AF-9 side by side. i could say that the Q-tron is more wet but the AF-9 is also wet but thicker depending on how you mix it. i don't find the volume peaks annoying at all, sometimes you actually need them to add a bit of volume when soloing. but at the end of my chain, there's always my compulator to regulate the volume peaks of my OD, FUZZ and my AF-9. sad but i have to let go of my AF-9 to finance my new custom bass... one of my favorites, including the analogman chorus...

which i think you have it now! hehehe...
