Help me to decide!

Not to burst your bubble, but I don't think you can have it narrowed down without trying them. It's about how it plays and feels to you, not how it looks or how people say it sounds.

Do yourself a huge favor and go try these basses out, as well as a bunch of others to make sure you won't be wasting your cash on something you thought would be cool. I have no experience with these basses, and neither do you, haha - go play them and get a first hand feel for if either one is really for you or not.

If you had to buy one without playing them, I'd go with the epi lp. I'd be willing to bet the overall craftsmanship will be better than the dean.

I owned the epi lp special and it's not a bad bass. I had extra heavy boomers on it and it had monstrous tone for a $300 bass.

Never played the Dean, but I have played some of Deans other entry level basses. They aren't for me, but others like them.

IMO, i'd look into the epi thunderbirds as well. The epi TBird pro is a great bass for the price.
