Help me upgrade BM400

My Yorkville BM400 has been great for small gigs. With a pick and a red llama it can scream. Fingerstyle however, about 1/2 throttle the tone changes, and I want it to stay the same; only louder! It has a removable head with 400 watts and a single 15. I bypass the preamp section and get my tone from active basses, (4 string,) and pedals (ebs multicomp & VT bass.)

Would a new head (thinking used genz) with an upgraded preamp and more headroom get me the tone I want at volume?

Or, maybe the cab is the weak point on this rig, and bigger will be better. A 15" extention cab is the obvious choice, but I'm not enamored with the sound of the one I got. Plus, there is a 610 local for great price.

I've been really good this year, but Santa says I can only have one.
