Help me with a new Genz Benz Rig

I like them both though obviously I prefer the SVT. I just injected the SVT into the conversation as a joke. My life goes on no matter what amp you use, so best of luck to u, my friend ;)

So I can get a "demo" Max 12 for $50 more than a new Max 6 and the "demo" Uber 212 for $150 more than anew Neox 112T.
No brainer even though it's overkill, right? Although the 212 is a little more cab than I want to haul around.

I do. I'm trying to get an opinion on the sonic difference between the 212 cabinet and two 112 cabinets.

I only own one 112 at this time. What I'm trying to figure out is whether two 112 cabinets add something different than using one 212 cabinet.

If I'm missing out on something, then I might think of selling my 212 cab and picking up another 112 cab. Since I am using my 112 the majority of the time at gigs, I like the versatility of just possibly adding another 112.

I hope that makes sense.

Steve - any chance you can keep the combo around as well?

While I have a separates rig I really like I was getting tired of the cab/head/cables setup for things that didn't need the volume and just added a smallish combo. I know you are going for minimalism (I applaud the concept but can never stick with it myself) but it seems like a Max12 and 2 cabs with the combo would give you even more rig flexibility. Heck personally I'd probably want the Max12, a 4 Ohm 2x12, an 8 Ohm 1x12 and the combo to give lots of combination options.

I may. I love the ability to grab my Shuttle 3.0-10T combo and go. Even with the extension cab it's still portable. It just doesn't quite get where I'd like.

I am debating if getting where I want is worth the extra gear and expense. I really like the 2 preamp option with the Max series.

I wish I could have a Max 6 with a mounting bracket and put it on a NeoX-112T. Then if I need more I could put another NeoX-112T under it for big gigs.

there is a lengthy thread that has a good description of the difference made by fretlessboy (i think thats dennis' username?)

but after rehearsing and gigging with these models for the past several months myself: i can reinforce his opinions as well, since i haer the same things for hte most part:

My NeoX212 in comparison sounds more even toned in terms of mid/lows balance, and maybe because of that it can initially come off as more articulate, while still sounding full and meaty (it will transfer the properties of your head faithfully, so the cab will sound thick, smooth and full with lets say a LMII, but take on a more high mid, lean, tubey sound with a shuttle 6.0)

my friend's neox112 sounds thicker because of a bigger inherent bottom, and instead of the even sound of the 212t, the 112t sounds more thumpy and will hit you in the chest a bit better, especially when cranked in a smaller room, even with a shuttle 6.0, regardless of how you EQ a 212t to try to match the 11t, the 112t sounds more thumpy. the upper mid articulation might get a bit more buried within the thicker sound, but it is there to tweak if you want.

two of those will be more like a 1 + 1 = 3 sort of deal.

I don't think of the Uber (which I've never heard) as a better cab. The NeoX provides good low end. The Uber provides more. The NeoX kills the Uber for portability because it's thinner, taller, lighter and has kick and roll wheels.

If you offered to trade me an Uber for a NeoX, I wouldn't take you up on the offer. For me, the NeoX is the superior cabinet.

After looking at the Uber 212 in person today, I'm pretty sure it's not for me. Too big. I have some gigs upcoming where I am going to try some EQ'ing with on my Shuttle combo and extension cab and see if I can get a little closer to what I think I want to hear. I think I'm hearing an upper mid kind of thing that I'd like to get rid of so maybe some judicious use of the parametric mids will help.

Really, I'm the only one with issues. Everyone else thinks my bass and rig sounds great.

If the 212t is more articulate, and the 112t is more "thump", would a 112t on top of a 212t give you both? Of course you would need a SM6/12 to drive the cabs. Has anyone tried this combo? If so, what were your subjective results?

Sorry if I'm taking the thread in a different direction, that's not my intent. I'm just looking at another possibility as I'm also contemplating the 212t vs two 112t options.

TB is great. I keep learning new stuff here everyday!

2 of the 112's will have a slightly deeper bottom compared with a single 212 due to the way the total cabinet size and thus the tuning potential that exists with the design.
