Help me with a new Genz Benz Rig

Then I would say go for the MAX 6 or 12.. That way you have the FET which i find essential at times. The GB tubes can be very clean sounding if you want.. but if you are not a tube guy,Then the MAX 6 would cut most gigs the 12 if you need turbo like i do..:) I think you have pretty much stated your needs and my opinion is that the MAX series would be the way to go for you..

The 9.0 would be awesome as well. I'm trying to decide if I want/need the 2 channels which is why I keep the Max as an option. There are times when I really like the FET only. I'm not a big tube guy, but I like the ability to blend in as much or as little as I want/need.

When i play my sadowsky i need to engage the Global Mid Cut on my 12 ever so slightly to get what i want .. The Sad is a little mid bump that on some gigs needs to go down a little..
That is what i like about the GB Max or gbe heads, and that is that you can adjust the amount of globalness.... because i only use a very little...

.
I LOVE my Shuttle 6.0-12T, and with the 12" extension cab, it's a pretty amazing rig. The lows and overall oomph are amazing, considering the size, weight, and overall portability of the setup.

However, I don't like this rig with my Sadowsky or MTD basses. They just don't seem to play nicely with the tube pre-amp in the Shuttle 6.0. However, through the FET channel of the MAX12, they sound great. I use that amp with either my Epifani or Aguilar cabs.

So, I say all that to suggest that you may not like the Shuttle 6.0 with your Sadowsky...although this is obviously subjective and your ears are your best guide. I really dig the Uber212 cab...especially with the MAX heads. However, that takes away some the portability advantages of the Shuttle combos.

I love the FET channel as well. I would use it the most. Any Tube channel would be blended with the FET. I think the Max series is what I want - even if I don't "need" it. :)

The cab issue is the one I struggle with. I have a number of gigs where a NeoX 112 would probably be enough. In most of those cases my current combo is enough. Then again, the 212 sounds so good.

I definitely like the option of using a single 12" cab, so having two has been great. For a lot of my gigs, and certainly for rehearsals, the single cab is plenty. And on a number of "modular" gigs - i.e. cocktail jazz up front in a small room, followed by large group R&B in a bigger room - it's nice to be able to separate the cabs to create rigs suitable to each environment.

Sounds like we operate in somewhat similar environments, so I'd certainly recommend at least pursuing the idea of two cabs. Good luck...

That was where I ended up: Save yourself the ~$300 and get one 2x12 rather than two 1x12's. Cheaper and easier to move. I like the NeoX 2x12 because it's rack width and has kick back wheels. Like you, I really couldn't see myself bringing just one 1x12.

Where are you doing theater work in NoDak? I grew up outside of Fargo. And where are you finding all that gear? There's no place I know of in Fargo that does Sadowsky, Genz...

KO

Although, as I find with the extension for my combo, why would I play without it as it sounds so much better. If you are always going to bring 2 cabs, why not get a single 212 cab.

So many options and things to consider.

Im just speaking from my experience with moving my own gear... I found it is easier to move two 1x12s .

And my #1 issue is always scalability.. to go from one to four cabs if needed yet still basically sound the same. that is why i get 1x12s... 1,2,3, or 4 of them.. depends on the gig.. 1 Neox112 can do some damage if you allow it to and depending on a gig.. and a pair again is very easy to move... and scalable depending on your gig.. It has bee a long while since i have used 4 cabs with my Max12... Sometimes i will use 3 on an outdoor gig and 2 for 95% of the time since i have PA support.
Two 112s can really move some air... and the NEox112 seems to put out about a s much air as other folks 1x15s while retaining the snap of a 112.

My vote is Neox112 with a MAX6 head.. then get another 112 if you need to exterminate some small mammals. But it takes 4 cabs on a max12 to rid the earth of cockroaches:D

This is the logical reason for at least starting with a single 12" cab.

That's the economics of it. Although I think I would rather spend the money for 2 smaller cabs (if necessary - I may find that one is enough) as portability/mobility/space is a big consideration for me.

There's a pretty active community theatre group here that I play for quite a bit.

And where are you finding all that gear? There's no place I know of in Fargo that does Sadowsky, Genz...

A local store was smart enough to get Genz Benz a few years ago so they actually have stuff like the Max 12 in stock. Very cool.

Yeah, no doubt that 2 smaller cabs are easier to move in my experience as well.

Yeah, that is a great point. I doubt I'd never need 4 cabs but yeah, getting basically the same sound regardless of number of cabs is a good point.

Yeah, the Max 6 with a NeoX 112 would be a great 375 watt rig with expandability to a 2 x 112 rig at 600 watts.

Yes sir.. IMO that would be a sweet compact light, fast breakdown fast set up rig that is expandable, sound good with a huge tone palette..and less weight than most 112 cabs on the market..
Oh and it would be loud too... I have done it.. and it does make people dance...
But if my requirements were just like yours and i had the experience that you already have with the gear... I would def get that rig..
Let us know what you decide too..
Oh and the DI out as you know is super nice..

Yes i am a GB endorser but im a bass player first.. paraphrased and borrowed from a Dennis Michael s post..

Another MAX6.0 + dual Neox112T guy here, so another vote on that. Fairly new to this setup, but I did plenty of research prior and it has seen a few diverse gigs and various basses (including a contrabass balalaika!). This is what I can say so far:

- it sounds amazing
- I love having the MAX over the small 6.0, don't mind the form factor one bit
- I do like having 2 112's way more than I think I would have liked a single 212 — can't imagine dealing with one, especially all the time. Modularity rocks.
- the single 112 is plenty loud, I have not neeeded the second cab yet
- the 112T has a flip handle on the bottom that can be used to tilt the cab back :)
- standing on the side, a 112T is as wide as the Shuttle cab and only slightly deeper
- the 112T is light, but not that light. There is a chance I may have had been almost as happy with a lighter MAX6.0/Shuttle 12T combo + one Neox112T soundwise and happier logistically. But without having played the Shuttle combo much myself this is only a theory, and not one I care to dwell too much on.
- still, carrying the 112T is a much more enjoyable experience than with my old 410.

On a side note, folks have reported confusion due to the multitude of knobs. I personally love having them, but the labeling is indredibly inconvenient. I have to be looking straight at the amp face to see the labels under the knobs (placing the labels above would have helped greatly!) which, in the case of a single 112, may involve bending over and not in the most graceful way. Can we have a redesigned replacement faceplate?

i own the Shuttle 6.0, NEOX 212 and NEOX 112. The majority of gigs I am using the 112 as a bass monitor as our FOH is substantial. Hearing bass thru FOH is never a problem. After getting a new sound guy, he revamped our FOH to the point I only really need a bass monitor on stage.
I used to use my 212 all the time but I don't really use it now. Maybe the occasional outside gig.

Now I wish I owned a second 112 to use in addition when necessary. I am thinking about selling the 212 and picking up a 112.

I imagine I'll find takers here at TB.

For me 112 all the way. Get two and you're set.

Just my two cents.

Well, I emailed my guy at the store to see what his "best price" is for me on a Max 12, Max 6 and NeoX-112T. I'm thinking I'll go with a single 112 to start with and see if I need more. Like I said, my Shuttle 3.0-10T combo really covers my gigs, but it's just missing a little "umph" at times so I'm guessing a Neox 112T will probably be all I need. Following that logic, a Max 6 is really all the head I need, but if he gives me a great price on the Max 12 he has in the store, I may take it. It should be the last head I'd ever need, right?

Not to get into a big thing here or derail the thread - I have tried an SVT/8x10 rig and I hated it. Worst sound I ever had. That's why I titled the thread specifically with Genz Benz.:smug:
