Loan it out for open mics and showcase gigs. The wear and tear will give you years of experience in a short amount of time.
Basically I think the problem is in the bass player module of the Amp.
Suggest the following:
1) Remove picking arm (usually right but occasionally left) and replace it with a Pino Paladino upgrade
2) If that doesn't work then remove and replace the fingering arm with a Jaco
3) If you are still getting a bad sound.....shave your head and replace it with a Geddy wig.
4) If that still does not help with your sound, consult a witch doctor and replace your entire player with a re-animated John Entwistle (Zombie edition.....still gonna play better than most people).
5) Some fine tune slapping of the player with either a Flea or Claypool slapper and you should be as good as new.

I think the problem is I found fun ways to practice that are highly ineffective for actually advancing my playing. "What note causes which wall/window/appliance to shake?" "How many times can I noodle the same 3 riffs for 30-40 minutes but never try anything else?"

I was going to say that putting the bass down always stops my amp from making awful noises. But, now that you have 'fessed up, I can't say that any more. Oh, wait, I just said it. Now what happens?A couple of you guys got it at least. Made sure not to post this in the amps forum.
Point was that I'm unhappy with my playing and I'm trying to solve it with gear purchases instead of practicing. It was a play on the typical thread where someone says their amp is making a weird sound. What if that weird sound was actually just their playing. But when you have to explain it...
