Help needed on switching preamp

hi,
yesterday i posted a thread and was quite vague abt it but cldn't delete it, so i'm creating this as i looked in further

basically i purchased a preamp without really checking on the current one i have and turns out that the current one has a few more connected wires including the output jack

i have 2 questions

a) the new preamp has a small board with 4 holes, meant for the 4 wires from the pickups, however, my pickups has 3 wires each which i think 1 of them is for additional grounding, question is where do i solder the 3rd wire for both pickups?

b) the output jack for both preamps are different where the current one has more wires connect, can i connect the 3 wires from the new preamp output jack to the current output jack and make it work?

The 3rd wire (most likely bare, but see manufacturers doc) is indeed for grounding should be connected to any ground point.

Both should be stereo jacks and work the same way. Among the 4 wires currently connected to your jack, 2 are likely ground wires from the current installation (one is signal and the last one is battery -), so you should be able to make it work with the new preamp if wired properly (signal to tip, battery- to ring, ground to sleeve)

It sounds like you're in over your head on this one right now. There's a certain amount of understanding of guitar circuits you really need before tackling this. You're going to have to use the existing jack in lieu of the one that came with the preamp. That means identifying which lead is from the battery on both jacks, as well as signal and ground. I'm GUESSING that red is battery, white is signal and black is ground. You really should test the leads with a multimeter to see what has power, though. What is the make of the preamp? Did it come with instructions?

I'm GUESSING that the two common center holes are for ground since they share a common terminal. Then the holes on each side MIGHT be signal from each pickup (?). It's hard to determine based on the pictures and lack of info. Your best bet would be to take it to a tech.
