Help needed with pot selection for p/j with concentric knobs

Wow Stealth thanks for the whole schematic! That actually looks good, but as line6man said, i don't think my jazz pickup will have a high enough output to match the Quarter Pounder and I'm not going to buy another jazz pickup. I think I will just wire it as a P only and get new knobs. One last question, would leaving the jazz pickup in place and the wires coiled up but not connected to anything going to cause any noise or interference in any way?

Well, line6man covered the truth about the Jazz pickup; I sincerely doubt the pickup itself is active, though - check how many wires lead from it. If it's two (hot, ground) or three (hot, cold, ground), it's passive and you can use the schematic above.

If not, just drop the Blend J pot ad the wires connected to it from the schematic. You can wrap the ends of the J pickup leads with insulating tape to make sure they don't connect with anything and that'll be the end of that.

Buffering will change the tone, and not allow the pickups' impedances to load against each other when placed in parallel.

Introducing a series resistance will reduce the output and darken up the signal.

I was talking about the knobs, not the actual wiring. I find I am mostly using the tone control together with the p pickup, so puttong them together in a stack works for me.

I als assume the original to e circuit is active, so it's worth the try to keep it as a buffer after blending the pickups.

On passive blending, or buffering: IME passive blending is just fine, as long as the resistance of the pots is not to low. (I prefer500k pots and one buffering pre after) Most of the pj effect I like comes from the phase interaction, not from the impedance interaction. I think buffering both pu's would work too.

To the op: best way to find out if there's a use for your j pu is by trying. Wire the bass for the p and experiment adding the j in several ways. Unbuffered it probably will sound bad, but hey: it also might sound very special.
