Help Out A Beginner

You should be able to find a used Behringer BT3000 or BT4500 head and a Behringer 410 or 115 that total under $300. You may have to do a little looking, and I am pretty certain you can get this stuff for that price. It's a great way to get going, and if you can ignore the brand snobs, you'll have a very good rig.

Alright I'll have a look around for that kind of stuff then. And I con't care what brand snobs think, as long as it sounds good I'm happy ;)

*Correction to anyone who said a bass won`t hurt a guitar amp*

I had to use a Fender guitar practice amp for a week while I waited for my bass amp to be shipped across country. As a safety precaution I had set the bass on the amp to only around 8 to make sure it wouldn`t blow, but after a few days I couldn`t take the trebly sound any more so I raised it up to 3-4. I maybe got two notes out of the amp before it hissed out and died on me. Basses and guitar amps do not mix. Othewise we`d a see a lot more bassists playing through guitar cabs because of how much cheaper they are.

Correction to the correction;

Bass will not hurt a guitar AMP, it will however thrash a guitar SPEAKER. Don't believe me call up Ol' Dusty Hill and ask him how long he's been playing through GUITAR heads. Lot's of others as well.

I don't think the Behringer derision around these parts has nearly as much to do with being a brand snob as their widely-reported issues with reliability. With the exception of my DI, I've never owned a Behringer product that didn't break within a few months, and I've owned a couple handfulls of their stuff, including a practice amp.

+1, no brand snobbery here, but basically Beheringer gear is the absolute bottom of the barrel. No offence if you use one, just that as far as good tone and reliability are concerned, it's not a brand I would consider. (edit) Tone is subjective, so who knows, maybe you'd like it, but the reliability factor can't be over stated.

Well right now I'm mostly looking at Fender Rumble 100s, the Ampeg I mentioned earlier, the Kustom, and some Roland Cube-30s. I'd really rather have something higher than 30 watts, but I don't want to spend more than $300 on an amp combo.

A guy has a 4 year old Peavey TNT 115 Bass amp for sale, $400 obo. This is the most expensive of all the ones I've considered, is it worth the extra money? Any idea what kind of price would be a fair deal for me? Thanks for all the help everyone :)

I just posted on a similar thread for a lad in the UK (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7428565#post7428565) about the Fender B-DEC 30. It may not be loud enough, if you're looking to get much louder than a practice situation, but it's in your price range and is a great learning tool for making you a better bassist, which is why I bought one...

There's some TNT 115's on the auction site. New $520 and a used one for $350 buy it now.

Offer the guy $300 for the 115 and see what he says maybe?

I'll have a look into both of your suggestions, thanks for your help :D

This guy seems to be looking for a combo. Which, are commonly referred to, albeit incorrectly, as amps.

When you blow the speaker in a combo, the whole thing is no longer really that usable.
