Help picking short scale roundwounds

I used the medium-scale Boomers on a Mustang Bass. Overall, I'd rather have strings that are too long than the wrong scale. I can't remember if I had 45-100 or 45-105, but they felt fine. I imagine that even on a non-string-through short scale, you could get the medium-scale to work.

Absolutely, good point! I wouldn't do it with flats though.

I’m thinking more about trying the GHS Balanced Nickels. I would like more zing, but if they are just better short scale strings then I can always EQ to taste.
The down side is that since the E is a .106 then I may have to enlarge the nut slots just to accommodate them. Doing that myself is a bit scary and getting it done professionally would be some $ and time.

Is the nut not the original one? I'd be really surprised if it turned out Serek cut the E-string slot so narrow that it can't accommodate a .106"...

It is the original nut. I hope you are right.
