Help to identify a bass

There’s a five string Jackson bass I’m interested in but I can’t seem to identify the model.
It’s about 15-20 years old and has a serial number on the back that I’ve been unable to trace.
Any help and comments on this particular bass most appreciated

Ok, wow so a pretty rare beast. Thank you so much for your input.
What’s your opinion of the instrument? What would you think would be a fair price for one ?

well no, not rare at all. They made plenty of them as a whole series with different pickup options.

These are made in Indonesia. The 1-2 year before that were from India.
In 2001 they changed to the 5 knob configuration to match the other models using a 3 band EQ setup.

I have so many different Jackson and Charvel 5 stringers with that same preamp in it. This unit is the lightest compared to the full sized p-bass looking bodies. The tone and sustain is normal for what it is. You have the top-end version ( not painted ) but value? Fender flooded the world with JS basses in the past 5 years and ruined any chance of these 2nd gen concerts from having any value at all anymore unless you find someone who likes the style. I picked this one up for 175 and it is very clean.

Go to the Jackson site archive and look at 2001 and you will see the difference with the knobs.

Ok, so the one I’m looking at is in good condition but having read your comments and done some more research on that model I think he’s got it overpriced. He’s asking $350 AUD. Although instruments here are more expensive generally, there are other options that offer better value for money.

I would have to agree. I am a Charvel/Jackson brand collector and any time I see someone who likes the tone of one of these older ones I appreciate that as I do but can only reference my opinion with a unit going thru my amp and effects.

I mean I like it, it does sound good, it is very light, and you are right, over here those do not go for that much, but for 300-350, there is quite a selection of "other" choices from Jackson or other brands that may offer the same thing for you to play to investigate first. If it WAS a collectible and had some significant part of some history or something, that would be a different story to own one of them for that price.
