Help tracing a guitar.

Hi, I recently started learning the bass and found a Yamaha bb2024x for a steal and decided to go try it. Needless to say I instantly fell in love with the instrument but am having a lot of difficulty tracing its legitimacy etc using the serial no. Also I found the fact the serial No was printed on a sticker and then just stuck on the rear of the headstock a bit bizzare, any help would be very much appreciated !

The back of a 2024 headstock should look like this

Hi thanks for the help , it seems to have the 1024 headstock with the 2024x output jack. However upon digging more into the 1024 headstocks I found that they have 1024 printed on the reverse side which mine doesn’t. It all seems a little strange to me to be fair. The guy in the shop said those serial numbers are something to do with being made for/used by artists I assumed that this would just be sales tactics however but don’t know if that would make any difference ?

I believe @P-STO works at Yamaha. Maybe he can shed some light on it.

Thanks for helping, the community here seems amazing ! I think with the look of it at some point it’s had a 1024 neck put on for some reason , but the guy in the store said the u90s can be strange due to being made for artists so he’s going to call Yamaha UK tomorrow as he bought it direct from then and then sold to a close friend. Hopefully it comes back legit. Fingers crossed.

Post more pictures but seems like that’s a real Yamaha neck and body so if it plays well and the price is between a 1024 and 2024 and seems fair to you then there you go. Most reviews here find little difference between the playability of a 1024 and 2024 and since you are new to bass would you notice the difference? Even 424 gets plenty of positive reviews so I wouldn’t be too concerned unless you think you want to resell it. In that case don’t get it.

I rang Yamaha UK who transferred me to Yamaha Germany then spoke to Yamaha Japan, to cut a long story short the guitar was an artists prototype that was never meant for sale the guy on the phone sounded really shocked as to how i had gotten hold of it but it was a full spec 2024x :L. Thanks to everyone who helped !
