Help with a Jazz Bass

Which Jazz Bass?

Need opinions on a 4-string bass guitar used for playing jazz standards recreationally. For the Xotic, it would have the brass nut and the HRI upgrades, and possibly the Linda Fralin PUPs. Thought I hear what everyone has to say first. I have tried both guitars but not together, as I have no chance to compare them side-by-side. The Xotic plays extremely well, and am gravitating towards it. However, I may have just had a bad experience with the Fender that I tried in the shop. The setup was very bad and the strings dead.

They are "Lindy" Fralin...and I would choose a bass with those in them over a Fender. I am unfamiliar with the Xotic but it looks like it has a lot more going for it. I have an old '77 Jazz Bass that I love but I have not been impressed by the new offerings from Fender. There are various quality levels with Fender but outside of Custom shop instruments , I would probably look at other companies...There are a lot of companies doing their own spin on Jazz Bass style basses today so you have a lot of options. If you've narrowed down to these two , play them both several times if you can't compare side by side. Check out all your tonal variations of the preamps and pick ups, and the feel of the instrument. You'll figure out what will suit you best. Good Luck!
