Help with amp selection

I have a classic series Ampeg SVT 350H and I am tired of getting it fixed. The solder points on the board keep seporating and the amp wont fire up until it has been on for a good 15 minutes or so. A guy at Ampeg told me that when the board heats up it is probably expanding the points to where thay are making contact and it fires up. I dont know if it's true or if I got some kind of lemon but I do know that im tired of it. What do you think about the SVT 450 H? I have read many reviews on it and it scored very high in most areas unlike the 350H that was demonized by almost all that reviewed it. My speaker cabinet is an Ampeg 1540 also classic style so I would like to stay with the same look but am very limited to the 450 H only. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you are having trouble with the SVT 350H, I would definitely ditch the amp and forget about the SVT 450H. The 450H is nearly the exact same circuitry with 100 watts more power at 4 ohms. You could be getting yourself into another mess with another Ampeg product - don't do that!

Even though Markbass is not my first choice in amplification, I will suggest you grab the Little Mark II and be done with it.

It's extremely light, has great tone and will run circles around the Ampeg SVT 450H tone and power wise. It has a definite solid state vibe to the sound - you should flow with it great.

I know you would like to keep that Ampeg Classic look on your next amp purchase - the only one that really cares about the look of your rig is you. No one in the audience is going to care for one second what color scheme your rig is or what it looks like. Musicians are the only ones who will comment about that. Anyone who says your rig looks goofy or what not can be shut up by turning on your Markbass head and blasting them to the moon.

Find a better tech?
Sounds like you're tired of taking it in for repairs, not getting it fixed. If it were fixed, then we wouldn't be here now.
If you like the sound & look of the amp, it's worth getting it fixed for real. If there is a known engineering issue, such as heat, then surely there is a known modification to prevent recurring problems.
