I'm looking at getting my first DB from a local seller on Craigslist. I have not gone to see it in person yet, but the seller says it is from the late 50s or early 60s and that the label says Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm Bass Viol Made in Germany.

I have been unable to find any information about this brand/maker. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks

Possibly made by Hofner. Can you send the Craigslist link if it has pictures? That would help a lot.

Yeah. Make sure the soundpost is on what is currently the E string side. Make sure the neck set is solid. Make sure the plies aren’t delaminating at the edges. If you’re lucky you might only have to have it restrung and the bridge crown recut.
