help with eq'ing on my ashdown

The MAGs are tuned very mid friendly, which should make cutting in a band situation pretty easy. My EQ knobs (L to R):

9:00 - 2:00 - 12:00 - 3:00 - 1:30

I've got both bright and bass knobs in. The bass knob can be a bit boomy. But if you can't hear yourself, turn it up.

thanks for the responses everyone.

sevenyearsdown: so you think the vt pedal might be having a negative influence on my tone?

The VT NEVER has a negative influence on tone ;) But you should try to get a good sound out of the amp on its own first before you add a pedal.

JimmyM hit the nail on the head. Just try to get the sound you are looking for pre-effects. You might find that you can back the effects way off, or just use them to fine tune if you find what you are looking for before hand with regards to tone.

Disclaimer: this statement was made by a guy who uses no effects at all. Fender Bass + Hartke 3500 + SVT15 Cab = my gig rig

Still probably a good idea. Best to get a decent tone before fiddling around with effects, as then you don't have to do as much tweaking with the controls on the pedals and stuff.

Of course, I usually just use my amp's tone for my main "clean" (it's still usually pretty mean sounding) tone and then use, for example, a pedal for occasional ridiculous distortion, a completely different sound.

similar question with the ABM. lol
similar question?
same answer.
i think the ABM growls a bit more than the MAG, and it sits perfectly in just about any mix i've ever put it in. turn off the EQ. don't use the Shape switch (actually, with this switch pushed in, your eq is flat)
i have the tube drive on about 1 o'clock for a bit of grit and some mid-pushiness.
it sounds nigh perfect to me.
