Help with identifying this Fender Jazz Bass?

The pick guard has been off but that event took place years ago, many many years ago.

So what year is your lefty jazz (LJ)? I have a 68 but it doesn't have the brass grounding strap that your bass seems to have. It has always been noisy.....I use the volume and tone controls mostly to minimize the noise. Didn't know there was supposed to be a grounding strap.

Hi John- My lefty Fender Japan jazz is circa 97. I got it with a hardshell case, on Ebay, in 1998-99 can't really remember when, for $410.00- safe to say it was a killer deal. The bass was so close to new it was amazing. Just two dings. I'm a working bassist. I'm careful with my instruments, but they do get bruises here and there. I played it for a while with the stock pickups, but with an EMG BTC control added. Nice- but noisy. There really isn't much , even using shielding, that is going to really make the circuit quiet. Passive split or stacked coil pickups would make it a lot quieter.I went the full active route.
The bass no longer has a ground strap, or the original pickups and circuit. I installed EMG's and a BTC system. NO ground wire needed with EMG's.
Three reasons why I did this swap- NO grounding of the circuit to the player- therefore, no shock hazard, and they're dead quiet, even when the pickups are solo'ed... the third reason- I dig the way they sound. I have five lefty Jazz basses, and four Precisions. I think you'd like my collection.

The third reason is the best reason. Yeah I would like your collection.

I have an old Jazz bass and a newer P bass. The are both fun. I have had the J bass for 48 or 49 years now. The P bass showed up 5 or 6 years ago. Left handed gear is scarce in these parts.

Yeah, a wild and crazy kind of guy........
Under neath the pick guard I found 666 routed into the body. This was done at the factory by the devil herself as near as I can tell. Yup, it is the devil bass...........
