Help with Iron Ether Oxide - Active Bass overloads it?

Yeah, I don't disagree... gain is often a problem with effects, particularly with active basses, and it may well be the problem here. But some people assume that it is the only possible issue if an active bass doesn't play nice with an effect, when in my experience some combinations simply just don't work.

True- the Z-Vex Wooly Mammoth is infamous for sounding like crap with actives, so the Vex Mastotron just added a pre-circuit pot that helps with the input impedance. I think the Gain knob on the Oxide works in a similar fashion so it can work well with active instruments.

I tried it blended in my Bass 400's FX loop (where level would be a bit lower since it's controllable) and was able to get a lot more crust out of it but am not sure the Oxide is for me. The final test would be in a loud band setting and seeing where the awful noises it makes sit in the mix. Pretty sure this thing is going to the Classifieds though. I feel like I bought into the hype surrounding this pedal! I just must not be a fuzzy dude.

Not to be 'that guy' but could this be a technique issue? I have had no issues with my oxide with nearly any input level.

Try it with some different basses and see if it behaves the same as with your Cirrus.

I have the same issue with my Spector (Aguilar preamp). It overloads pretty much every dirt pedal. I actually moved on some nice dirt pedals before I realised this

I sorted it out with sfx microboost http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/microboost/
It can go down to zero output unlike most others so it gives me quite a space for tweaking.
