Hi all. I am able to read standard bass cleff on a slower low intermediate level. I can usually keep up with notation from low E to D above the staff (on 1 ledger line.) Quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, and rests I read OK if I focus hard. Time and again when a note appears on 2, 3 maybe 4 ledgers above the staff, it trips me up. My brain cannot process what I am looking at in tempo. My thoughts slow down I must think, Oh that is Eb, G, or Ab, then quickly determine its position on my 4 string. Sometimes this could be in the midst of a 2 octave leap and I am quickly overwhelmed and my place in the chart fall behind. Are there any ways to practice these these things that my result in quicker (less painful) progress?
