Help with my 1978 p bass burst colour!

Hello people, I'm new here... just sold most of my bass collection to buy a 1978 fender p bass. Awesome bass..best I've ever had in 35 years playing, & I've had all sorts. Problem I have is I'm not sure about the burst finnish. It was listed as 3 colour sunburst, but it's more like a 2 colour brown burst or tobacco burst,with ash body , good figuring showing through. But it has a brown rather than black edge that fades to transparent into the amber front & back, cant seem to find similar online or any hint of what the colour is??? Any help appreciated. My ‘76 P is brown on the edges though you have to be in bright sunlight to actually see that it is. I changed the pg from black to tort but the rest of it is stock. The 5-string in the pic is a Squier VM.

You might have to check with a vintage expert but my guess is that maybe Fenders from this period just look this way. My 1959 Precision Bass is pretty brown on it’s
outer edges as well, but as you can see in these photos it reads as black.

Seen that before. Some edges are brown instead of black. Yours is quite extreme.

You can clearly see how the edge is a very milk chocolate brown, very 70' s vibe. Also the very thick poly finnish is a bit "soft under the strings between the bridge & bottom of the pickgaurd. Had the old gaffa tape residue on the top horn & around the bottom pin too. Took that off with lighter fluid. I've not had or even seen a 1978 fender till now, I had a 1962 original 20

That color is called brownburst, or honeyburst. It's a different color than sunburst that I've seen on a few hardtail Strats from the early 80s

Cheers lownote38 I was thinking brown burst, just wanted to clarify it. It looks like a bar of chocolate & plays like one, creamy rich and tasty....heck that sounds cheesy..not chocolatey. Ha ha thanks for all your help & posts guys!!! Richard

I thought it was called "senna sunburst" I could be wrong or misspelling it. Here's my 77 jazz.

Here is the back, the edges are dark brown not black (they look a little blacker in the photos).

I think it's sienna burst, but yeah, that's another name for it.
