Help with pedals

I'm new to the world of bass pedals and im sure someone out there knows their stuff. what are some of the pedals every bassist should own? what are you favorites? any you wished you owned? Thanks!

well, it all depends on what style you´re wanna play. is it more rock, jazz, funk or metal?

but what you really might start with is a tuner. (korg pitchblack for example)

I think the core types are overdrive/distortion/fuzz, compression, chorus/phaser/flanger, and filter.
