I plan on spending a lot of time on that PDF! Like I said I 'know' most of it but a lot takes me a while to figure out in my head. I practiced for about 30 minutes today just writing out all 4 note chords in a couple keys. I then picked up my bass and played each chord arpeggio in a couple different patterns up and down. Only did one Octave to get my brain at least used to the format before getting overwhelmed. I'll start next time with 2 octaves.
Started with C for simplicity then moved to E since it's one I use quite often when I play. I'll move on tomorrow to 2 different ones I don't use and do the same process plus 2 Octave runs.
This is the real 'boring' stuff that a lot of my friends started with and never played after that. I've tried a couple times to jump into it but it took me until now to finally understand the need for it to improve further.
A friend of mine a while back showed me a site musictheory dot net, it had the same info as that PDF but also has exrcises to do as well. I think back then it only had piano format exercises but tonight I noticed they have guitars and other instruments. They even had 5 string bass. I went through a fretboard note identification exercise and got 90+ percent a couple times. First run through I did guitar before I realized they had bass too. I found I am weak in the low fret higher strings. I tend not to play there and move up the neck so I could definitely tell I was struggling when those notes popped up.
Other than that, I learned to songs from RHCP I've never learned before since there was music available. I am determined to skip rock practice for at least a week and find other stuff to play. Any suggestions for easier to learn stuff from other genres? Specific songs and hopefully ones with wider known tabs or sheet music.
