Help with the Traynor SB500H head.

The Amp head is rated at 500w at 4ohms.
No where states the wattage at 8ohms. Contacted Traynor/Yorkville and they won't give a definitive answer. Just want to know because I'm going to buy a 300w/8ohm cabinet and don't want to blow the cab.
 
They suggest a 600 W cabinet at 4 ohms with minimal distortion. I would be cautious with 300 W at 8 ohms. The lack of detail for 8 ohms makes me think that it would do best with 4 ohms. There are a lot of choices at 4 ohms and you will havemore headroom.
 
The head probably will be a good match with the cab.
You could blow the speaker if you really wanted to. But you will hear it long before it happens. I'm actually also considering that head. There is a traynor 112tc for sale locally so it would make a nice combo.

@RSBBass, If I ran 2x 8 ohm cabinets, then my load would become a 4 ohm correct? So if I added another 300w/8 ohm cab, that'd be 600w at 4ohms? Sorry if my questions are stupid. I'm kind of new to real setups as I've always just used Combos.
 
The product manuals are not the greatest granted, but not useless. The service manuals are superb though.

Traynor uses Icepower 125asx2 modules in that amp as per the service manual. A quick look at the Icepower site indicates it'll produce about 450 watts at 4 ohms in bridged mode, but doesn't specify 8 ohms in bridged.

I was able to find bench tests by BHK Labs of two amplifiers that both use the 125ASX2 module, which state the 8 ohm power ratings in bridge mono mode. Both ratings were done at 120V AC, 1 kHz test signal:

Calyx Audio Femti Stereo/Mono Amplifier: 231W @ 1% THD, 289W @ 8 ohms @ 10% THD
Bel Canto REF500M Monoblock Amplifier: 235W @ 1% THD, 291W @ 8 ohms @ 10% THD

While different amps may use different limiting protection (if at all), I think this is a reasonable approximation of what can be expected from the 125ASX2 at 8 ohms (in bridged mono).

My Kustom KXB500 uses the same 125ASX2 module, and lists the 8 ohm rating as 300W in the manual, though I'm pretty certain they're fudging that figure upwards from the 10% THD condition. (The maximum wattage can in fact be a bit higher than 300W if used with 230V mains, but the manual "surprisingly" does not qualify either the AC line voltage or the THD figures used to arrive at the 300W spec.)

Yes, the two 8 ohm cabinets would be a net 4 ohm load, drawing the same amount power from the amp as a single 4 ohm speaker would. And yes, two cabinets could handle 600W total (assuming each 8 ohm cabinet can handle 300W). The actual maximum amount of power delivered from the amp to each 8 ohm speaker would be whatever the amp's 4 ohm power rating is, divided by two. For example, with an amp rated at 500W @ 4 ohms, each 8 ohm cabinet would receive 250W (when the amp is putting out its maximum 500W).
