Help with Trace Elliot head

Ok cool thanks for replying.
These are the details of it so hopefully this will give ya more of an idea of what i will get out of it using the already mentioned cab:

Details:

12 band graphic (all working perfectly and no noisey sliders)

Variable valve blend – enhance the harmonic content of your sound to bring out sparkle and character

Preshapes 1 and 2 – one is quite middly and one is mid cut

EQ on or off (the graphic in or out button)

EQ level control – have one sound without and then use the graphic in to automatically dial in a different tone using the graphic…works great for slappers

Low and High compression – compress the bottom and top end separately for complete control of your bass sound

EQ balance – basically swings the graphic eq to quickly make it more bassy or more toppy

Effects send and return sockets on back

Earth lift (in case you get buzzing at a venue due to dodgy grounding)

Post EQ DI – go direct to a PA

Tuner output socket

Foot switch socket

2 x 8 ohm speaker cab outputs

250 watt RMS

Made in the UK

Super cool green glowing facia!

Be sure to check that the pre-amp tube is working. Make sure the tone changes noticeablty when you move the blend knob from one end to the other.

If not, the tube (at least on the 350 SMX) a 12AX7 may need to be replaced. It's sort of a pain to get to - there are a lot of screws to take out - so put aside an hour and bring something to drop the screws into!

I don't know what your RMS power rating will actually be, but I had the AH350 SMX and it was the loudest head I've ever owned. Trace's power ratings are extremely conservative, and I can tell you your new amp will be very loud.

+1....I currently use an AH350SMX...it is rediculously underated powerwise. I have yet to play a gig where I can turn the master volume above 3. mostly playing with the master at about 1-1 1/2....anything above that is typically too loud..

+2! I also use a AH350SMX and have never felt the need for more power running it through a Trace 2x15 cab.

To the OP, you should be seeing approximately 150watts rms @ 8 ohms and 250 at 4 ohms. It should be pretty loud however you might want to add another cab if you play in a loud rock band or mid-sized venues. However, try it out first and see what you think as it just might surprise you! :bassist:

ok thanks for all your help! this forum is bloody brilliant to be honest!

So, to get the best out of the amp, what do you all think i should get cab wise? i wouldnt want to spend more than a couple of hundred-ish.
I currently have an old 1x 15 8ohm marshall amp.

thanks again

If you have to stay on the cheap then I suggest using your Marshall 115 cab along with a 410. You will have to shop around for a good deal on one though. You could always just add a 210 (cheaper) to add a little bite and volume but the 410 sounds like what you are going to need IMO.

Hi i found this cab? would this be cool with the marshall 1 x 15 or on its own if need be?

I really appreciate peoples help with this!

It will sound great and give you a real (measured) 250 Watts RMS try to get an old brimar ECC83 Tube for the amp.
Half the original Trace Elliot team now work for ashdown (designers included) so you have a matching amp and cab really also the Celestion speaker in your marshall was probably made in Ipswich too Which is very close to Braintree.
In Britain we have the very strict trades descriptions act and so heavy fines are imposed on any misrepresentation of the performance of products.
Greetings From Ipswich Suffolk
I don't work for ashdown but I used to do work for Freddy Freedline in the old Mid eighties Trace days.

I used to use the TE AH300-12 (the next gen from your one) and an Ashdown MAG 4x10, but the early "thin" one. It was an absolutely brilliant combination, really great tone and punch and LOUD. You can't go wrong with the 2x10 to start with, then add another 2x10 at a later date for the full 4 ohm TE experience :)
