should've put this in my last reply but i didn't think of it...

pick a song with an obviously audible bass part (lots of Nirvana's songs, Green Day's "Longview", etc.) and listen to the bass part, usually during the verse. play wut u think the tab wants u to play during the verse and see if it sounds like the album. if not, look at what u might be doing wrong and think it over. i learned by listening to "Longview", although the tabs were really wrong, it sounded close enough that i understood what i did wrong. hope u enjoy playing ur bass. i have a fender (my first bass), but there was a very similar squire model. good luck

Welcome to talkbass first off. Nice to have another chick around here! :) As everyone else has said, don't let those that are mean bother ya. Most of the threads will have at least one person that's not cool, and everybody else will normally take care of him for ya, so yeah, don't let people like that bother ya.
As for reading tabs, even though it may not be the best way to go, it's a nice way to get to learn songs quickly. Just totally look at the tablature, study it, and then see how it all relates to the fretboard, or neck of the bass. That's how I learned how to read tabs. It would be best if you practice musical scales and things of that nature. The earlier you start, the better you'll be. Private message me, or any of the other guys for that matter, if you need any help on anything. I'll try my best to give ya a good answer. :D

Welcome to talkbass Lchick. I'm sure you will learn a lot here just be sure to always respond as soon as, and much as possible in threads you started, some guys get annoyed when people ask for advice and then don't respond to the advice they get. Oh yeah and always listen to jazzbo even though some of his replies are so thorough that it is hard to get through. You might want to have a chat with Jason Oldstead too (don't let the name fool you, SHE is probably the most experienced female member).
