HELP!

I currently have a Squier Affinity P-Bass, and I really want something that sounds better. My price range is anywhere from 250-350, but I want to stay in the lower range...

Can anyone help me?

I like the way the Epi T-Bird and Epi SG bass look... but are they any good? -.-

I think the epi's lok great too, but I've heard that they can be very muddy. This was true with a tbird I tried at GC.

For around $300 you could get a new squier classic vibe or squier vintage modified bass. A lot of people think they are getting as good as the MIM fenders, not to mention they look awesome :D.

You could also look for a used MIM fender, they usually go around $300 and are usually pretty plentiful.

Yeah, I've replaced the pickups and I have a set Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings on it... I just don't like the neck on this at all, it's from '01 and it's just horrible... it IS my first bass though, and I love her...

Definitely go used. If it were me I'd buy this:

Used Peavey Millennium Plus 4

I used to own this very bass and it's amazing (I'd have kept it but I'm a 5-string guy). This will serve you better than anything you could buy new for that price.

I play through a SWR WorkingMan 15. I like the fat sound of my Squier, but it's just way too muddy sometimes and there's always an annoying buzzing on open strings, no matter what I do. Also, I don't know what active basses are like.

This thread is perfect for me. I have owned a squier p bass afinity and i currently own a epiphone thunderbird and I would say I like the squier better than the epiphone for a number of reasons. I like the sound better, i like the feel, the epiphone is too heavy and clunky and yea. Thats about it. The epiphone is nice, but I would rather own the squier.

IMO there is a vast difference between the Affinity and the higher end squiers. My Vintage Modified fretless Squier is flat out awesome and better than any MIM I have ever put hands on. The Epi T-bird is a great bass and I love mine. But if you think your P bass is muddy then the T-bird is out of the question. That goes for the EB-3 as well. Again, great bass but voiced more for a low thuddy sound. I say go out and try a Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe Jazz. These basses have a classic sound with more high end. Great fit and finish for not a lot of dough. I also think that they would match up better with your amp too.

Hm, what are some major differences between Jazz and Precision?
