Helpage--- Best metal bass

but basically i think its kinda how you play. i see alot of spectors and ibanez in metal though

I understand you effects can essentially make any bass good, but i dont have money for effects, so im trying to find the best naturally sounding bass growl wise

I wanted a sound akin to John Wetton's growl on the first Asia album along with the Geddy and Chris Squier growl.

For me that came out of a G&L. I was wailing on my newest one, sans effects, the other night and rabid dogs ran away in fear.

in order to get a tone the same (or similar) to paolo's crusade tone... u would need something with a pair of humbuckers.

for the ascendancy tone... he used a pair of emg precision pickups.

i would recommend a used musicman stingray as it is probably the most versatile off the shelf bass avaliable.

on another note, has anyone noticed that paolo uses the exact same effects as cliff burton live? (big muff and morley double bass wah)
hes a great bassist but i think he should create his own style rather than using someone elses.

warwicks for metal are the best IMO
I have a fretless corvette tuned in drop c and it growls like a tiger

I play scandanavianesque black metal, and my schecter elite-5 destroys. If you're on a budget, i played an ltd f-255 for years, had great looks, and with a nice amp it can sound pretty killer.

That Dean Razorback that the guy from Trivium plays, well, my bassist got one (in the metal band I play drums) and it is awful sounding. Horrific tone, no life to it at all, mud heaven... Granted he knows virtually nothing about tone or EQ but even just playing the bass unamped it sounds and feels horrific.

ESP! Or an Ibanez with humbuckers, like the SRX series.
