Helpful Software to Slow/Loop Playback

most songs i want to learn are those i find on youtube . . . so here is the process i've been using to get better clips of songs/lines.

1) grab the youtube url and head to www.keepvid.com
2) download the video (i use the highest quality mp4 version available)
3) load the video into this free video editing software for cropping ( Avidemux - Main Page )
4) navigate using the up and down arrows to find the starting and end points (you have to mark each of these from the menu to let it know which section of video you want)
5) change the sidebar settings to copy the audio/video and save the file as an mp4 type
6) click save to export the section of video
7) load the new video (maybe 15 seconds of video?) into VLC media player
8) turn on the repeat playlist feature, and slow down the playback
9) SLOWLY play along with the music or try to figure out what is being played

I've been using the jamup app on my ipad which has a "jam" feature to play along with songs, plus you can slow or speed it up and includes a pitch change feature to keep the song in tune, but it isn't free nor are the songs you must purchase through itunes, works great and is very simple to use.
