Double Bass Henriksen Amp Question

I agree with everything @DoubleMIDI wrote above, but would like to add a phase switch on the mic/xlr channel, as well.

EQ section with semi-parametric control for all 3(4?) bands would be very nice (like on the old Eden traveler heads or the Vintage Revolution Acoustic Box II preamp)
That’s what I forgot to mention.
But some prefer a 4-band non-parametric and others a 3 to 4-band (semi-)parametric EQ.

I play with a guitarist in A Jazz Guitar/Bass duo.

The guitarist has had his for a little over a year and it sounds great.

I have tried it with my NS Design NXT5 and sounds pretty decent. The designer told us that the amp will
Support a bass. I am sure it will.

I would consider one if I was in the market but I have GK Mbe 150 which I use for most smaller rooms and a Bergantino HP Forte with a Nxt212 for outdoors.

Also, in September I was lucky enough to see Ron Carter at the Denver Club Dazzle and the club provided him with a Henriksen. It sounded great but I am sure that Ron would sound great through any rig.

You've stumbled unwittingly into the doublebass fora, Derek.

I don't think that matters. Many of us are doublers.

My DB sounds fine through a 12" combo, it's the perfect size speaker for that string length IMO. Work and complements from one unlikely little box.

I also use the combo and an ext spkr to scale up for bigger gigs eg outside, and for BG on small gigs.

If I could find a good powerful combo and ext cab that would be all I need.
I hope I never have to carry a two speaker cab or combo ever again.

Henriksen already makes a great bass amp; it’s called the Jazz amp 310.. it’s 1x12”… of course denver cats already know this and can be found at the 2 top jazz clubs- Dazzle and Nocturne… there’s also one (diff model?- but Henriksen) at Mezzrow in NYC. They sound great!!! JazzAmp Archives - Henriksen Amplifiers

That model doesn't seem to be listed in the link... I wonder if it's been discontinued...

I've seen these on their site, but I'd feel better if they were dedicated bass amps. Short of that, their demo videos are all guitars. One with a doublebass would make me personally more confident if I was considering sending them my money.

It sounds like they're considering making and marketing a purpose build DB amp, which is good news.

I'm playing a jazz guitar fest here in California and spoke to the owner of Hendrickson Amps. He's aware of the hole that the demise of Acoustic Image and Euphonic Audio has left (as well as the demise of the GK MB150) and is working on a bass amp. Probably a combo. I have high hopes. I'm going to see him today again. What do we need from this thing? HPF? Two channels?

XLR input with phantom power please. Honestly their current amps have most of the needed features, just needs to be optimized for bass. maybe higher wattage.

Better 4.7 to 5 MegOhms input impedance.
It is easy to lower the input impedance by a short adapter cable with a resistor in it, but to enlarge the input impedance the amp has to be modified.

The high pass filter has to be frequency adjustable from 30 to 150 or 200 Hz and (at least) 12 dB/octave.

A mute switch is helpful too.

The EQ at zero position (middle) should have a straight frequency response.
Optional switches to alter the shape of the frequency response.

Two independent input channels with full EQ, at least one of them with a phantom powerable XLR mic input too.
The input should accept high input levels without distorting and the gain range should be rather high.

Speaker output should be able to drive a 2 ohms impedance, 600 watts minimum at 2 ohms.

DI out, switchable to pre-EQ and post-EQ, switchable at mic and line level, ground lift switchable.

Optionally line in, Bluetooth audio in.

Effect loop and line out (to drive an additional powered cab).
Effect loop in parallel and with a dry/wet mix between effect and dry signal.
Maybe an internal effect (reverb, delay, flanger, chorus, phaser).

I’m sure I forgot something, but this is at least the most important.
Some things could be dropped, but most are important.
What, no cup holder?

Take something like the Bud Head, with bendable channels, 1XLR, put a excellent piezo friendly input stage, phase control, HPF, bass specific eq, notch filter if you want to go nuts -pair that with flexible DI options - and upgrade the power output to something overkill like
1,000W via speakon
