Here I go again ...

I just pared down my performing to one band and the occasional solo gig. But an interesting thing opened up locally, and I'm talking to another band ... again. Originals and covers, acoustic. Fortunately, they're doing a gig nearby on Saturday night. In a phone call earlier today I told the BL (or whatever he is) I'd see them then, and introduce myself. They're mostly older guys like me, loads of experience, future gigs on the books, and they talk a good line (but I've heard that before!). We live very close to each other, and he's dropping by this afternoon with a CD for me to hear and we've agree that if the music isn't a match we won't pursue it any further, no hard feelings.

Honestly, he was more excited about this than I am ... I don't get worked up about things that MIGHT happen. It's a two-way audition, and he gets it. I think.

Great attitude. It's hard personally when you get so excited about a new project and the potential only for it to quickly die upon meeting the new members. *sigh* Especially when you really love the music. Good luck!

OK, so "Maybe they just need a better acoustic guitarist/vocalist?"
It wasn't the about the performance, that was fine. The band obviously has chops. What they don't have are good originals, and that's the rub. Bad enough to play covers of hits I don't like, I'll be damned if I'll play and/or contribute to original music I don't like. ;)

And this how one does it ... and doesn't just ghost the band. I got a friendly thanks for my time, it's all good.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get out to hear you last night. I did listen to your CD. I'm gonna get to the point and say it's not for me. You guys have good chops, for sure, but I didn't get those "warm fuzzies" you spoke about. I wish you all the best finding the right guy (and understand how important that is) and wish you much success as you move this project forward. Thanks for your time and consideration. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
