Dude, look at the pic. It's an African lion (it has a mane). I don't care *what* site it came off - it's fake.

Someone went through alot of trouble to photoshop OP photo. Its taken in low light or after dark, Big cats are very stealthy, they could easily sneak up in the dark without you seeing them, they are not above running another predator off from a fresh kill, its the way things work in the wild. besides there is a branch in the way across the top of its head and there is a glow in the eyes from the flash, which revealed its presence, I would think the flash probably spooked him and it retreated or the person taking the picture fired a warning shot right after it was taken. I think its legit. How can you tell with certainty thats an african lion ? are you a zooligist ? looks like a cougar to me. oh, and pretty sure that wasnt taken in CA

he wasnt saying the original pic is an african lion, the pic later in the thread is 110% definitely an african lion.

That's the thing. In SoCal, the "city" butts right up against the "wild" and the animals are habituated to humans...and they know the humans aren't armed! :p

that's a lot of places SoCal isn't special. Nature may be pretty, but it's also pretty dangerous. people need to educate themselves.

Those are probably full if you have an encounter with a hungry mountain lion you probably won't know it until its too late. Every time I walk through the woods I think that there are lots of things watching me that I am unaware of.
