I voted for rotten carrot so I can beat these threads with it mercilessly

If it sounds good and is ergonomic enough, I can set it up to play nicely.
If it's super ugly, I can reshape and refinish the instrument.

If it's a total pig, there's no point in wasting my time.

I'm not sure why this is even a question. If the bass doesn't sound amazing (and respond to input), why even bother with it?

It has got to play well. We'll just keep buying pickups and pedals until it sounds good. Can deal with the ugly.
